Elephants Spotted Migrating North in China

15 Asian elephants were seen migrating north in China as they found themselves among the local streets of Eshan County in the Yunnan province on May 27.

Authorities in the area reportedly used vehicles to block off residential streets and keep the elephants on the right track as they made their way north. The elephants began their journey in the Meng Yang Zi natural preservation area in southern Yunnan.

Asian Elephants are endangered with a population of fewer than 50,000. They are social creatures that usually travel in small groups led by the oldest female or matriarch.
