FIRST PRESS BRIEFING OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION: White House Press Sec. Jen Psaski holds the first press briefing of the Biden administration. Former Pres. Trump’s war with the media, dislike of journalists, and cries of ‘fake news’ created a hostile environment in the press briefing room. After a slew of press secretaries spun facts in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room—where roughly four years ago, then Press Sec. Sean Spicer made clear the Trump administration’s relationship with the truth by touting false claims about the crowd size at Pres. Trump’s inauguration—briefings are expected to return to their fact-based and grounded interactions between White House officials and members of the media. Psaski has said that press briefings will return to being a regular part of the Biden administration, and that she recognizes the importance of her role at a time when public trust in the government remains relatively low. ‘We don’t expect public trust to change overnight,’ Psaski has said, but she hopes that her regular briefings will highlight ‘policy, information and data and pull the curtains back on what’s happening in the White House.’
