In US news and current events today, writer and stuttering awareness advocate José Ralat explains how he sees his story reflected in Joe Biden’s stutter. Ralat, an advocate for people who stutter, can relate to Joe Biden’s struggle with the condition — he’s been living with a stutter all his life. Ralat is the pioneering taco editor for the Texas publication Texas Monthly. But, aside from taco culture, Ralat has also been vocal about raising awareness around stuttering, a condition that has become a topic during the 2020 election due to Joe Biden’s openness about his own stutter. Opponents have also used Biden’s stutter as an opportunity to mock him while on the campaign trail. Ralat discussed his stutter in a recent essay for Texas Monthly, from his time as a young boy to the numerous times he was judged for it. UT Austin recently received a $20M grant to establish a new center on stuttering research & education. It will be the largest center of its kind worldwide. The grant was made by Arthur Blank, an NFL owner & co-founder of the Home Depot, who also has lived with a stutter himself.
