CUOMO UPDATES ON NY SURGE: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo delivers updates on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic amid concerns about the potential for increased cases as a result of holiday travel and gatherings. ‘Between now and January, there will be increased social interaction, and the consequence, I believe, will be an increase in the rate of cases,’ Cuomo warned yesterday. ‘The only question of how much and how fast is up to you.’ In the latest surge, New York reported 5,386 new cases on Sunday, bringing the week’s average to 5,145, a shocking 87% increase over the average two weeks earlier, according to The New York Times. Cuomo, who wrote a book on ‘leadership lessons’ before the pandemic was over, is soon to be honored with an International Emmy for his briefings. New York has the fifth-highest number of COVID-19 cases and the highest number of deaths from the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.
