Cielo Villa’s nonprofit, The Road to Uni Foundation, aims to demystify the college admissions process for high schoolers.
‘Luck just shouldn’t be in the equation when it comes to success,’ Cielo explains.
The Road to Uni Foundation offers students free tools and resources as a guide throughout the application process, answering questions about FAFSA, financial aid, teacher recommendations, and much more.
Cielo came to the U.S. with her family from Peru when she was 7 and credits hard work, preparation, and luck with helping her get to where she is today.
She recently received the David Prize, which celebrates New York City residents whose ideas and projects aim to make the city a better place.
‘Trust in yourself, believe in yourself,’ she says. ‘You have to believe in your story.’
