BIDEN AIMS TO TACKLE LAGGING COVID-19 VACCINE ROLLOUT: With Pres.-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration just days away, his transition team is preparing to fully take over the country’s battle against the coronavirus. Biden has remained optimistic about his team’s vaccination efforts, which includes a plan to vaccinate 100 million Americans in 100 days. His transition team has decided to retire the name ‘Operation Warp Speed,’ as incoming WH Press Sec. Jen Psaki tweeted the name change reflects the ‘urgent need to address the failures of the Trump team approach to vaccine distribution.’ Biden also has tapped former FDA Commissioner Dr. David Kessler to serve as his administration’s chief science officer of their COVID-19 response team.
Yesterday, Biden also unveiled his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief plan, which includes further funding for increased testing and contact tracing, another round of direct payments to American adults, expanded unemployment benefits, and an extension of eviction and foreclosure moratoriums. ‘The decisions we make in the next few weeks and months are going to determine whether we thrive in a way that benefits all Americans,’ Biden said in his remarks last night, ‘or that we stay stuck in a place where those at the top do great while economic growth for most everyone else is just a spectator sport, and where American prospects dim, not brighten.’
