WH COVID TASK FORCE HOLDS FIRST BRIEFING SINCE JULY: As the United States surpasses the grim milestone of more than a quarter of a million COVID-19 deaths, VP Pence and members of the White House coronavirus task force speak to the press. This is the task force’s first press briefing since July. Since then, the White House has not released any sort of comprehensive plan to combat the spread of the virus. 49 of the 50 states are reporting increases in new cases, hospitals in new hot spots are reaching capacity, schools are closing, and businesses are being forced to follow new restrictions. Earlier today, the CDC released new guidance to urge Americans not to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday, advising that ‘the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to celebrate at home with the people you live with.’ This message has been contradicted by White House officials, notably Press Sec. Kayleigh McEnany who called the CDC guidance ‘Orwellian.’ McEnany, who herself contracted COVID-19 in October, told Fox News that ‘the American people, we’re a freedom-loving people, we can make good decisions.’
